Caspian Sea Level Change Observed by Satellite Altimetry

چکیده
We analyze satellite altimeter observed Caspian Sea level (CSL) changes over the period January 1993 to December 2021 using lake series from Hydroweb project and global sea anomalies (SLA) grids provided by Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service (CMEMS). The two altimeter-based CSL agree well at interannual longer time scales, but show significantly large discrepancies seasonal shorter scales. are found be introduced approximately inverted barometer (IB) correction applied CMEMS SLA Sea. IB or any enclosed lakes needs treated separately ocean correct reference mean pressure. actual effects smaller than those in grids. After applying an improved pressure fields European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) ERA5 reanalysis atmospheric model, remarkably well. Altimeter a significant decreasing trend on top of strong variations. estimated linear trends −5.37 ± 0.11 −5.40 cm/yr, respectively. Annual amplitudes 17.03 1.33 vs. 15.79 1.30 cm, with nearly same phases. change shows notable acceleration since around 2005, have increased −8.86 0.10 −8.81 respectively two-altimeter series.

International Conference on Rapid Sea Level Change- a Caspian Perspective
Welcome to our international conference on rapid sea-level change. While concern about sea-level rise is global, our host country the Islamic Republic of Iran and the neighbouring Caspian countries have a concern of their own. Here, Caspian sea level rose a hundred times as fast as in the world’s oceans. Whereas oceanic sealevel rose 13 centimeter during the whole twentieth century, the Caspian...
متن کاملCaspian Sea Level Fluctuations
In this paper the main factors that influence the Caspian Sea level rising and the probable and improbable factors are discussed in detail. A cyclical behavior of the level of the Caspian Sea according to local records was proposed. This cyclic fluctuation of the sea level is the long-term behavior of the sea so that the investigation is not restricted to a specific time interval. The statistic...
متن کاملThe Caspian Sea region: environmental change.
Ecosystems in the Caspian Sea region have been heavily modified by anthropogenic activities, mainly as a result of changes in the water flow and degradation of the water quality in the ecosystems. Changes in the regional environment have influenced regional economies, particularly obvious in the impacts on fish stocks. Using the methodology developed in the GIWA project, experts in the region c...
متن کاملArctic sea surface height variability and change from satellite radar altimetry and GRACE, 20032014
Arctic sea surface height (SSH) is poorly observed by radar altimeters due to the poor coverage of the polar oceans provided by conventional altimeter missions and because large areas are perpetually covered by sea ice, requiring specialized data processing. We utilize SSH estimates from both the icecovered and ice-free ocean to present monthly estimates of Arctic Dynamic Ocean Topography (DOT)...
متن کاملSea Level Changes Along Global Coasts from Satellite Altimetry, GPS and Tide Gauge
The average global sea level was rising through the 20th century as a result of global warming [8, 9, 26]. The Fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) estimated that between 1901 and 2010, the mean sea level rate 1.7±0.2 mm/yr and increased to 3.2±0.4 mm/yr between 1993 and 2010, and projected that in 2100 the largest increase in global average sea level ...
